Is Concias

Quartucciu (Città Metropolitana di Cagliari)

A few kilometres from Cagliari, in the granite landscape of the Sarrabus, the giants’ tomb of Is Concias preserves a still clearly legible structure.

A TOMB OF COURSES

The tomb lies within the Sette Fratelli natural park, in a granite landscape.

Built more than 3,000 years ago, it is not only a burial place but also an outdoor space where the community performed rituals and ceremonies for the dead.

Today the long funerary chamber, the exedra and, in the area in front, a sacred stone and three ritual hearths can be seen.

The massive curved wall at the entrance, of blocks laid in courses, gives the type its name: a “coursed” giants’ tomb.

THE SITE

Is Concias was not only a burial place: the exterior, the sacred stone and the ritual hearths were fully part of the sacred space. The megalithic entrance wall stands out.

THE TERRITORY

The Sette Fratelli park is a granite landscape of the Sarrabus, a few kilometres from Cagliari, among woods and rock outcrops.
